How much would you pay to jump off the Stratosphere and live to tell about it? Well, if you have and extra $100 lying around, you can experience a free-fall, base-jumping-esque experience unlike any other. The SkyJump Las Vegas is a controlled freefall that starts on the roof and ends at street level, which is 855 feet to be exact. Participants are strapped into a specially designed SkyJump suit and attached to cable and guidewires—presumably so riders don’t smack into the side of the building or “stray off course.†Participants leap off a perfectly sound ledge, descending at 40 mph; and just prior to reaching the landing site are brought to a safe and controlled stop. The entire process from the brief safety lesson until standing safely on the ground takes about one half hour. The SkyJump will open in April and is the fourth addition to Stratosphere’s current thrillrides, Big Shot, X-Scream and Insanity.
